Sexual Assault Support Services for Women of SDG&A is presenting the Vagina Monologues production for a third consecutive year.
This production is one of several around the world being performed to draw awareness to the plight of those grappling with sexual abuse.
SASS also said that for the first time, there will be both French and English monologues included in this year’s production.
The performance will take place on April 7, at 7 p.m. at the Ramada Inn in Cornwall.
Sexual abuse is a sensitive topic, yet, an ongoing problem that needs to be addressed, said a release from SASS. It cited a Maclean’s magazine report, which ranked Cornwall 153.72% in sexual assaults, meaning when compared to other cities across the country, the incidence of sexual assault were reported more frequently here.
Of the proceeds that are collected from the SASS event, 10 per cent will be sent to the Spotlight Campaign for Women and Girls of Haiti, to help maintain ongoing support to build movement and anti-violence networks.
The remaining funds will help SASS put in place a prevention program which aims to create awareness in the community. By specifically targeting schools, SASS plans to educate students on the realities of sexual assault and other associated topics.
Providing monetary donations, donations for the silent auction or simply purchasing a ticket to the Vagina Monologues Production will help SASS egenrate funds for their programming.
Tickets bought before April 7 are $15, and any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door for $20. Tickets can be purchased through SASS by contacting Céline at 613 932-1755 ext 27.
