A young lady in Green Valley who is barely able to list her age in double digits is headed to Montreal this fall to compete in singing competition in front of hundreds of people.
But get this - 11-year-old Kathlene Sauve just started singing before live audiences days ago.
The energetic Grade 6 student at Iona Academy recently auditioned for a spot at the Gala Revelation – a prestigious entertainment competition in the Montreal neighbourhood of Boucherville.
She was named to the top 25 who will be singing at the St-Denis Theatre in front of as many as 2,200 people.
Not bad for someone who started her fledgling career by singing live in front of a small group of people for the intermission at recent Canada Day festivities in Alexandria.
Sauve said she’s going into the competition with an open mind.
“I think when I’ll get there I’ll be nervous,” she said. “But right now, I’m okay.”
Sauve has never taken a singing lesson in her young life, but will have a few sessions with a voice coach prior to the competition – which nets her a singing scholarship if she wins.
Sauve sung Taylor Swift’s “Mine” for her small Alexandria performance. She explained her voice coach will likely select a song for her to perform at the St-Denis Theatre.
