Summer is nearly over and the kids are back to school - it must be time to launch the new season of Aultsville’s Wednesday Night Film Series.
The 11th season launches Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Galaxy Cinemas. Passes are now on sale at the Cornwall Civic Complex box office (613-938-9400).
Full series passes (eight screenings) or fall series pass (four screenings) are both available. The British comedy “Hysteria” as the debut this year.
Last season local filmgoers experienced several high profile films including the Oscar winning “The Artist” and the Genie winning “Monsieur Lazhar”.
“Hysteria” is a humorous and somewhat risqué tale that takes place in 1880’s London concerning the medical profession, the burgeoning women’s movement and the invention of the first marital aid.
Medicine at the time was just coming out of the dark ages with many doctors scoffing at the “germ theory” and misdiagnosing most women’s issues into the common diagnosis of hysteria.
The film comically skewers the British class system, male hierarchy and gives us a somewhat historically inaccurate look at the launch of the women’s movement.
What could have been quite controversial winds up being told in a light, funny, frothy way.A full series pass is $100 and includes admission to all eight regular screenings as well as invitation to a post screening reception on opening night in which one can have a sip of wine, a couple of nibbles and some stimulating conversation.
The fall season pass is $60 and includes admission to the first four screenings and invitation to the reception as well. Single tickets are available the night of screening while supplies last.
