An amateur Cornwall photographer is hoping to create an online portal where other locals who share his passion can promote their work.

Claude Bissonnette has already gone so far as to create "Through the Lens" - a Facebook group that already has dozens of "likes" and is being followed by 10 local photographers who are seeking to promote their work.

"What I want to do is establish a hub or place where amateur and professional photographers can share their photos," he said in an interview. "It's a small community and I think we can all help each other."

The pickings are pretty slim in Cornwall as far as photography associations and equipment dealers are concerned. Locals tend to travel to larger centres like Ottawa or Kingston to get their fix.

But the landscapes, architecture and people in Cornwall make the Seaway City and excellent place to shoot photographs - so Bissonnette is looking capitalize on that.

He's hopeful photography contests and art shows dedicated to photos can be created.

"I'm sure the availability is there," he said. "One of my goals is to find a place for people to use to promote their photos."

Some of the local photographers already featured on Through the Lens include Jason McNamara, Jason Setnyk and Lynn Armstrong.
