CORNWALL, Ontario - After decades away, touring the world, guitar virtuoso, Paul Deslauriers returns home, this month, to rock local pub, Lola’s, in an intimate show of his revered skills, for the lucky few who have a ticket.“I’m excited to be coming back to Cornwall. It’s like coming full circle,” said Deslauriers. Born and raised in Cornwall, a graduate of La Citadelle, he was among the many who have studied under local “guitar godfather,” Rod Robillard - the number one reason this area is filled with so many very accomplished pickers. “When we were growing up he was the man; an important part in my making a decision to become a musician, professionally. It changed my life and put me on the course that I’m on now today. I have Rod to thank for it.” From his humble beginnings, at the age of 15, paying his dues at La Maison and The Taboo Room, Deslauriers went on to tour around the world, including Europe, North and South America, Russia and the Middle East, in the company of the likes of Amanda Marshall, The Respectables and Garou, as well as frontman with his own band. For his return to town - sponsored by local outfit, Wizard Amplification Inc. - Deslauriers brings with him The Paul Deslauriers Band, for a night of blues and rock ‘n roll sure to blow the roof off… As well as old favourites, they will be previewing songs from their upcoming CD to be released in November. Most recently, he and his band released a collaborative CD, with sitar player, Anwar Khurshid, in June. “It’s east meets west, blues meets Indian music.” The show earned rave reviews all summer, winning the Coup de Coeur du Festival at the Mont Tremblant Blues Festival, for favourite show of the festival. Opening up for Deslauriers will be another virtuoso from the Robillard School of Genius Guitar Playing, Marc Muir, who can certainly hold his own, covering the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Steely Dan. Now that I’ve wet your whistle, I must inform you, that unfortunately, the show is long sold-out, but, take heed; there is rumour of a second date being added. Contact Lola’s for further details. Deslauriers dedicates his homecoming to an old friend, Paul Herrington, well known to the local music community, who passed away, last year. Thoughts and best wishes also go out to Robillard, from everyone who knows and loves him, for a successful recovery.
