SOUTH GLENGARRY – The art of ceramics will be celebrated during a three-day event that benefits people with Alzheimer's.
Ceramic celebration: The 28th Annual Country Harvest Pottery & Art Show & Sale at Marlin Orchard and Garden Centre takes place from Oct. 12 to 14.
Experience 24 potters and artists at work during the 28th Annual Country Harvest Pottery & Art Show & Sale at Marlin Orchard and Garden Centre.
"This show stands apart, as there are none like it in this area," said event organizer Ann Marlin, who has been a potter for over 35 years.
Marlin said one of the reasons for this show is to keep the public aware of what can be created from the hands of a potter.
"This is an ancient art and is worthwhile keeping alive in Cornwall," she said.
From Oct. 12 to 14, running 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., live demonstrations in a spacious greenhouse will be taking place.
This year the introduction of other forms of art have been added - fine oil painting, jewelry making, photography and assemblage artwork.
Plenty of shopping will be available, with items like sturdy kitchenware, elegant sculptures, unique jewelry and art pieces.
"A very important part of the show has always been fundraising for the various local charities in Cornwall and area," said Marlin. "Each participant has always donated a piece of their work, which goes to a silent auction table."
This year the recipient is the Alzheimer Society of Cornwall & District.
"What a beautiful weekend to hold such an event and open the doors to everyone," said Alzheimer Society of Cornwall & District volunteer coordinator Sherry Davis. "I am looking forward to greeting the public and thanking them for supporting Ann and all the artists who are showcasing their talent."
All funds from the silent auction will go directly to the Alzheimer Society to help provide family support, 14 peer support groups, adult day away programs, education sessions, First Link and support to research.
"What is so nice is that, the artists and the community have always been very supportive and generous to the charities chosen over the years," said Marlin.
The event takes place at Marlin Orchard and Garden Centre off County Rd. #2 at 6864 Orchard Rd.
