It’s official: Kinsmen Cornwall Lift-Off 2014 will be taking place from Thursday, July 10 to Sunday, July 13 in Cornwall’s Lamoureux Park.
Music lovers will have to wait a few more months before the entertainment lineup will be revealed.
Lift-Off co-chair Jason Jesmer did however confirm that Cornwall and area musicians wouldn’t be enjoying the same stage presence.
“We are working on a few scenarios that include local entertainment, but not at the same capacity as last year,” he said.
While the musical element of the hot air balloon festival is up in the air, the board of directors is keeping busy tackling other issues.
“With the event six months away our focus is on fundraising at the moment,” said Jesmer.
A Valentine’s Day Balloon Sale and a Bacon and Beer Bonanza on March 1 are the first two initiatives to help offset an undisclosed deficit.
The hot air balloon portion of the festival will be rising again as board members finalize a launch area.
Last year, a few balloons landed across the border due to strong winds. American border security strongly objected to the friendly Canadian invasion. This forced the second balloon launch to be relocated to Avonmore.
“We will do our best to communicate to the community where they will launch from,” he said.
In 2013, MP Guy Lauzon attempted to negotiate the international politics of the festival’s close proximity to American soil. Though Lift-Off draws closer, no agreement between the neighbouring countries has been reached.
The volunteer-driven event is always looking for a few good members to join their board or lend a helping hand during the festival.
“Reach out and offer assistance,” said Jesmer.
