2014 Tim Hortons Big Brothers/Big Sisters (BBBS) Cornwall & District Bowl for Kids Sake

There’s only one major fundraising event in Cornwall where strikers, one-hit wonders and even media kingpins are all part of the game. Over 1,000 bowlers are set to invade Olympia Bowl (1 to 7p. m.) and Nativity Lanes (12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) on Saturday, Fri. 8 during the annual Bowl for Kids Sake. Registration has ended, but you can still make a donation at either event location. All funds raised will help support seven free mentoring programs offered by BBBS. SD&G will have their chance to strike it big at the Counties Challenge Cup on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Chesterville Bowling Lanes.

Seaway Valley Theatre Company (SVTC) launches ‘Les Miserables’

SVTC is spreading its wings in their new production of ‘Les Miserables.’ A talented mix of 56 performers ranging from ages 10 to 70 are ready to own the stage on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and again with a matinee show on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 1:30 p.m. at Aultsville Theatre. Tickets are $18 (children under 12); $20 (seniors and students); $22 (adults) and can be purchased at the Civic Complex box office or at admission.com. Visit www.svtc.ca for further details.

Stage Fright Productions presents ‘Murder at the Casino Royale’

Professional and budding actors led by homegrown talent Nicholas Merizzi portray a cast of zany characters blinded by the bright lights of nightlife. Enjoy dinner theatre as a slick whodunit unfolds at Ramada Cornwall on Saturday, Feb. 8 for $45/a ticket. Doors open at 6 p.m. with cocktail hour, followed by a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. before the show kicks off at 8 p.m. Alternatively, on Sunday, Feb. 9 a matinée show priced at $35 will start with a cash bar at 11 a.m. trailed by the opening of the first act at 11:30 a.m. A buffet brunch will be served at noon. Mecca Pro Wrestling – No Love Lost

Mecca Pro Wrestling (MPW) is starting its reign in the ring in 2014 with a knockout performance at ‘No Love Lost’ on Saturday, Feb. 8 at The Agora Catholic Centre. Fists will fly and bodies will drop starting at 7 p.m. Individual tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door, or $40 for a family pack of four. They can be purchased at Nativity Bowling and Poppy’s Pawns Plus.

Cornwall Flying Club meeting takes flight

If you’re interested in aviation, there’s a club for that. Every second Saturday the Cornwall Flying Club meets at the Cornwall Regional Airport in Summerstown from 9 to 11 a.m. All are welcome. To find out more information, visit www.copaflight59cfc.ca.

Mohawk contribution to the War of 1812

Join Douglas George, Mohawk and First Nations historian, as he discusses the War of 1812-14 from a different perspective. Two Cornwall businesses are throwing a one-year anniversary party on Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at their studio at 101 Ninth Street West. A donation box for Big Brothers Big Sisters Cornwall & District will be on site. City council candidate Brock Frost is scheduled as a special guest speaker.
