CORNWALL, Ontario - Fresh off a big win at the Juno Awards (Canada's Grammy), Protest The Hero, a metal band from Whitby, Ontario, is headlining Vu Night Spot's latest metal fest on Tuesday, April 15.
Protest The Hero.
Protest The Hero is touring their new album 'Volition,' which is racking up accolades as aforementioned with the recent Juno Award for Best Metal/Hard Music Album of 2013.
Jamie Maracle, the night spot's manager and booking agent, says local mosh pit aficionados are clamoring for their North American tour stop in the Seaway City. The event is open to all ages and tickets are available at the door for $28.
"The last time they were in Cornwall was two years ago and they killed the Vu stage with a sold out show," said Maracle.
He boasted that the lineup is probably one of the best Cornwall has seen in a very long time.
"To add to Protest The Hero's amazing live show is up and coming Toronto band Intervals. Their latest album, A Voice Within, is getting huge reviews from all over the music scene," said Maracle. "Motorleague is also direct support for Protest and they bring a very energetic live show with a hard-hitting rock and roll sound. And to top it off, there's Dreamer/Deceiver, who is breaking into the Canadian and U.S. metal scene very quickly."
These three bands are known to ignite moshing mayhem, but Maracle guarantees there's still plenty to enjoy from the sidelines.
"A Protest show doesn't just give attention to the metalheads, they have a very melodic sound with a singer that will blow your mind," he said.
Social media comments have suggested that the price for admission is a tad steep. Maracle was quick to point out that quality bands come with a price tag.
"Every band on this show is a signed label band, to have this tour come through Cornwall is huge, local act shows are anywhere from $10-$15, I ensure you that the $28 is well worth your night. GUARANTEE it," he replied.
After the show, the music stops, but Vu has plenty in store to spark the night life in Cornwall's downtown core. The night spot is boasting a summer concert series that will compare with or surpass the PTH gig.
This April, Vu will be hosting theme nights, a #Selfie photobooth contest (April 12), Fishbowl Fridays, a beach party, a neon tight and bright party, and a giant downtown pub crawl.
