CORNWALL, Ontario - A powerhouse performer with a giant soul-filled voice and commanding stage presence is coming to Aultsville Theatre on Friday, May 23.
Soul man Matt Anderson.
New Brunswick native Matt Anderson, 33, is on a North American tour to support his seventh album 'Weightless,' which was released in February.
The travelling musician, who racks up nearly 200 gigs a year, is no stranger to accolades.
With millions of views on YouTube, independent sales over 30,000 albums, a 2013 European Blues Award, and winning Best Solo Performer at the Memphis Blues Challenge, it appears that the entire world is now discovering him.
"I've been playing live steady for the last 10 years and the big payoff of performing in front of a live audience is getting a reaction from the crowd," said Anderson. "I get a high off that."
Since January, Anderson has driven 50,000 kilometres touring across America and Canada. On average he spends 275 to 300 days a year entertaining.
Big in stature and even larger in talent, Anderson is known for delivering an electrifying solo performance without flashy lights and gimmicks.
"The big separation of my live show from others is a lot of people doing a solo performance see it as a low-key thing â I don't really go for that," he said.
Something you wonât hear on his new album: extended guitar solos. Andersen will let you wait for his live show for that.
âItâs fun to do, but on albums I want to focus on the songs more," he said. "I think Iâm more known for singing, and then guitar playing after that.â
Two-time Juno Award nominee Jeremy Fisher will be opening with a mix of folk-inspired ballads and pure pop tracks off his latest album 'The Lemon Squeeze.'
The show kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $41.50 (plus applicable surcharges) and can be purchased at the Cornwall Civic Complex box office (Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) 100 Water Street East, online at admission.com or at the Aultsville Theatre box office one-hour before showtime (subject to availability).
