CORNWALL, Ontario – Flags from around the world will wave high at the Cornwall Civic Complex on Nov. 29-30.

The Parade of Nations for the Developmentally Challenged is hosting its annual Multicultural Festival in complex salons A, B, and C on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

The festival raises funds in support of the volunteer organization’s ‘A Light in the Tunnel’ program. Through specialized activities, it promotes awareness, acceptance, and inclusion of the developmentally challenged and those with special needs living in Akwesasne, Cornwall, and SD&G.

“Since our first event in 2007, the festival has explored the ancestral origins of the people in our community,” said Marie Morrell, founder of Parade of Nations.

Admission is $5 per person, with a rate of $20 available for groups of five. Children under 12 get in free. Parade of Nations members receive 20 per cent off the entrance fee, and other benefits.

In partnership with the Native North American Travelling College, TR Leger Immigrant Services Cornwall, and other multicultural groups, events will include:

An official opening ceremony featuring local dignitaries and a flag parade of the nations and countries participating in the festival.

Table displays featuring the countries and cultures of regional ancestral origins.

A multicultural fashion show for all ages with trophies to be won. You must be dressed in an aboriginal outfit or national costume to participate in this contest.

A marketplace featuring products from regional artists, artisans, writers, performers, and small businesses, as well as a gigantic silent auction, gift-certificate draws, door prizes, and mural drawing.
