Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, accepts the invitation to become Patron of Quilt of Belonging.

The Board of Directors of Quilt of Belonging and artist Esther Bryan were elated when the news arrived that the Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, had accepted our invitation to become the Patron of Quilt of Belonging.

Her Excellency enjoyed a special viewing of the Quilt last fall in Québec City at UNESCO’s ICOMOS International Symposium. She was deeply moved by the artwork, the effort required to bring the immense project to fruition, as well as the ideals and values embodied by the work.

This symbolic endorsement of the objectives of the Quilt initiative is truly a special honour. It acknowledges the outstanding contributions of a host of individuals and organizations involved now and in years past. It encourages all to renew the commitment to pursue the vision of Quilt of Belonging: “To recognize Canada’s diversity, celebrate our common humanity and promote harmony and compassion among people.”
