Bar Association suspends Bernard Valcourt

Not much to worry about, really

Published on June 19, 2012

Francophonie minister Bernard Valcourt

The New Brunswick Bar Association has suspended Minister of State for La Francophonie Bernard Valcourt from practising law in that province.

The Bar Association requires that a New Brunswick lawyer must take at least 12 hours of mandatory retraining every year, something Valcourt has not done for more than a year.

But with a minister's salary of $ 235 000 a year and a good expense account on top of that, Valcourt doesn't have much to worry about. . . . unless someday he is defeated in politics and wants to go back to being a lawyer.
