If you've driven or walked through Cornwall's downtown the last couple of weeks, you've already noticed the new sentinel standing guard at the corner of Pitt and Second streets.
A new clock tower, installed at the southeast corner, comes courtesy of Pommier Jewellers and store owner Andre Pommier said the reaction he has received from passersby speaks volumes.
"People who are driving down Second Street are really noticing the clock tower," he said. "It really is giving the downtown a look of class."
The clock tower was powered up this week. It shines brightly at night and chimes on the hour.
Pommier said the idea of adding the tower at the corner came from seeing developments in other cities.
"I was really impressed with what I saw when I would go to other larger cities," he said. "They always seemed to have this sense of tradition."
The clock tower is part of a larger renovation being done at the corner which was ravaged by fire in late 2010 and destroyed Truffles Burger Bar - which was housed in a building owned by Pommier.
The mess from the fire has been cleaned up and the open property is being converted into a community gathering area, said Pommier.
It's his hope the property can be used in the future to host everything from community artistic performances to those looking to enjoy a cup of coffee and even a small wedding, should others find the area attractive.
There are also renovations being completed to the Pommier Jewellers store.
