Francine Leroux has set out to boost confidence among area students, one student at a time.

Through her new business Terrific Tutoring, Leroux is providing tutoring with a focus on skills development specifically tailored to the learning style of the individual.

“My personal attitude is that everyone can learn,” she explained.  “There is no ‘I can’t do this or that’.  I believe everyone can – they simply need a technique that works for them and I can help with that.  Every child is unique and sometimes requires individual help to nurture learning potential and advancement.”

Leroux is a graduate of the University of Ottawa with a degree in Social Sciences and a minor in Psychology.  Additionally she is Certified in NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention), and in 2006 was certified as a TESL (Teaching English As a Second Language).  She has worked at the Cornwall Community Hospital for 17 years, was Co-ordinator and teacher for Our Children’s Liturgy at St. Anthony’s Parish in Apple Hill, and has volunteered for several years with the Tri-County Literacy Council of Cornwall – all areas that have fueled her passion for working with people.

Tutoring services are offered in both English and French and to all ages.  Services are provided in the client’s home where familiar surroundings fortify a secure atmosphere for everyone, or in a neutral location.  Whatever the tutoring topic, Leroux feels that an ongoing assessment and evaluation is critical in guiding anyone toward their own personal success.  Everyone learns at a different pace, therefore constant attention must be given to the progress so that even the small successes can be celebrated in order to continue to generate motivation and confidence.

“Ms. Leroux has a passion for working with residents of our community,” said Candy Pollard of the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre.  “Just talking to her motivates one to look for opportunities for self improvement.  Her skill set, passion and personality are well suited for this type of business.  We wish her luck in this entrepreneurial endeavor.”
