Steff Charbonneau is proving that good things come in pairs.
The Cornwall native recently opened Quesada Burritos - Tacos in the same Brookdale Avenue building that is home to Quiznos, the popular sandwich shop he opened in 2011.
A first of its kind in Eastern Ontario, Quesada is a franchise restaurant that specializes in burritos, tacos and other Mexican fare. The restaurant got its start in Toronto several years ago, and the company is currently in the midst of an ambitious expansion phase with plans to open 15 new outlets across Canada this year.
Mr. Charbonneau said he wanted to bring a Mexican food establishment to the city, and his research led him to Quesada. He was impressed with the restaurant’s concept of using fresh ingredients and food that are prepared daily.
“If you like Mexican and spicy foods, then you’ll like this,” said Mr. Charbonneau.
The new restaurant is already generating a lot of interest within the community.
“The residents of Cornwall have responded quite well,” said Mr. Charbonneau. “People are helping to spread the word on Facebook, and the feedback has been unbelievably positive.”
Quesada and Quiznos are located on Brookdale Avenue, near Vincent Massey Drive, one of Cornwall’s busiest commercial areas.
“I want to congratulate Mr. Charbonneau on opening this second business in Cornwall, and I wish him the best of luck,” said Mayor Bob Kilger. “We continue to see a significant amount of commercial development on Brookdale Avenue, and this new restaurant is the latest example of that.”
For Mr. Charbonneau, the restaurants represent an opportunity to give back to his hometown. Combined, the two locations employ 20 people.
“I like Cornwall and I don’t plan on going anywhere,” said the 40-year-old who is also busy raising two children, Isabella and Isaac, with his wife Stephanie.
