Future Shop opens concept store in Cornwall

CORNWALL, Ontario – Hundreds lined up, some as early as 4 a.m., to be the first shoppers inside the new Future Shop in Cornwall Friday.

General Manager Nick Karlis says the 8,000 square-foot small-format outlet is designed to integrate in-store and online shopping into a seamless customer experience.

Future Shop Cornwall employs 32 people, and only three were previously with the company, including Karlis, while the rest were hand-picked from a local job fair.

The display floor features grab-and-go electronics, mobile fitness trackers, an Apple store, and a focus on smart home products, including tablets, small appliances, and a home theatre show floor.

There’s a reserve and pick-up area, where customers can order an item online and pick it up within 20 minutes. A ship-from-store option will be available soon.

The large electronics retailer’s third smaller format store follows in the footsteps of North Vancouver, B.C. and Brockville.

“We’re really happy to address the need for having a Future Shop in Cornwall, said Elliot Chun, communications manager.

The Cornwall location features an open view to the back, where the large stockroom which takes up more than half of the building, houses nearly 4,000 square feet of warehouse inventory available on-line and in larger stores.

Skylights and openings throughout the store allow natural lighting, complemented by efficient LED light bulbs.

And of course, the Geek Squad is readily available to ‘service and protect’ customers with all their technology needs.
