The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) wants your input on how the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program (ODWSP) should function in 2009–2011.
The Clean Water Act established the ODWSP to provide financial assistance to people whose properties or activities are affected by the Act.
To date, the ODWSP has provided grants for voluntary stewardship projects immediately adjacent to municipal intakes and wellheads. In late 2009, the technical studies will begin to identify what land use activities pose a significant threat to municipal drinking water sources.
The Raisin-South Nation Source Protection Committee (SPC) has been asked by the MOE to assist with local stakeholder consultation. The information you provide will be forwarded to the MOE as they prepare the third and fourth years of the ODWSP. Public meetings have been set up to get stakeholder thoughts on how ODWSP funding should be delivered and what should be eligible for those funds. All five meetings run from 7 to 9 p.m.
• Tuesday, Feb. 17 – Alfred College, 31 rue St-Paul, Room 244
• Thursday, Feb. 19 – Navan, Bearbrook Farms, 8411 Russell Rd.
• Monday, Feb. 23 – Alexandria, Glengarry Sports Palace, 170 MacDonald Blvd.
• Wednesday, Feb. 25 – Finch Community Centre, 4 John St.
• Wednesday, March 4 – Iroquois Civic Centre, 1 Dundas St.
Can’t make any of the meetings? Fill out an ODWSP consultation survey online at www.yourdrinkingwater.ca. All online surveys will also be sent to the MOE.
SPC Chair Claude Cousineau says, “Comments are important for the development of this program; the Source Protection Committee encourages landowners to attend a meeting in their area or fill in the consultation survey online.”
The deadline for all submissions is Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 4 p.m.
