Area Chamber of Commerce , Cornwall

Here is your chance to recognize someone in the community who has made a positive difference. Each year, the Cornwall & Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes a select group of business professionals and an outstanding citizen through a series of awards it presents at its prestigious Business Excellence Awards and Citizen of the Year banquet.

The Chamber is now accepting nominations for the 2009 awards to be presented on Feb. 20, 2010.

The Citizen of the Year is awarded to an individual whose selfless contributions to the community have substantially enhanced the well-being of its citizens. Along with the Citizen of the Year, there are seven categories of business awards: Small Business, Industry, Business, Entrepreneur, Skills Development, Above and Beyond, and Lifetime Achievement.

In addition, there two awards that are not always given: Breakthrough, and the Garth Taylor Humanitarian award. Breakthrough recognizes an extraordinary local event, or people accomplishing extraordinary things which benefit the community in unique and meaningful ways. The Humanitarian award is presented to an individual from the Cornwall area who has distinguished himself/herself for exceptional contributions outside the community, as epitomized by the late Dr. Taylor.

Descriptions of the awards and nomination forms may be found on the Chamber web site at www.cornwallchamber.com/page/bea.aspx. Nomination forms may also be picked up at the Chamber office at 113 Second St. E.

The Chamber encourages people who know of a worthy individual or business to pick up a form and submit a nomination. It is a unique opportunity to recognize someone you know who is making Cornwall the great city it is.
