The Cornwall Police Services Board is proud to be the host of the 47th Annual Ontario Association of Police Services Board Conference (OAPSB), taking place from April 30 to May 2, 2009 at Nav Canada. The theme for this year’s conference is “Policing: The Art Of Navigating Challenging Rivers.”

Canada’s most accomplished researcher, writer, and speaker on work-life balance, Dr. Linda Duxbury will be addressing over 300 delegates in attendance at the OAPSB conference. Dr. Duxbury has published widely in the areas of work-family conflict, supportive work environments, stress, telework, and supportive management. Always an enlightening and popular speaker, Dr. Duxbury’s ideas and research are highly valued by major corporations and government agencies.

The first plenary session, featuring Dr. Duxbury, will take place following opening ceremonies, which will include numerous federal, provincial and local dignitaries including MP Rob Nicholson, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

Other noted speakers scheduled at the conference are • Rich Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services; • Vern White, Chief of Police Ottawa Police Service; and • Peter Van Loan, Minister of Public Safety.

The three-day conference is filled with smaller breakout sessions featuring prominent speakers from within the provincial policing community, including Cornwall Community Police Services Chief Dan Parkinson who will be leading a session on “Taking Down Crime: Reducing Crime Always.”

Delegates will have the opportunity to network Thursday evening when they attend a wine and cheese hosted by Mayor Bob Kilger. It will be followed by the Taste of Cornwall–Dine Around Program where delegates make their way to local eateries to enjoy the city’s fine cuisine.
