Kinsmen Club of Cornwall member Dan Carbonnell picks up Steve Labelle's grocery tab as part of a 'paying it forward initiative on Saturday

CORNWALL, Ontario – Dan Carbonnell eyed the aisles of the east-end grocery store, looking for the next shopper to surprise with a heartwarming gesture.

Enter Steve Labelle.

As the man reached into the basket and began placing his items on the conveyer belt, Carbonnell swooped in, donning a red Santa hat, and offered to pick up the tab on behalf of the Kinsmen Club of Cornwall.

“It feels really nice, because the way things are,” Labelle paused, nearly moved to tears, “it can be rough. This really made my day.”

Kinsmen members visited Food Basics on Saturday morning to help bag groceries, and spend $500 in gift certificates on unsuspecting holiday shoppers. The service club also offered shoppers free cookies (donated by Allstate Insurance) and coffee (supplied by McDonalds).
