CORNWALL, Ont. – If anyone has figured out a recipe for success, it’s Louis’ Pizzeria owner Steve Liolios.
The popular Cornwall eatery will be defending its crown at the 10th annual Kinsmen Pizza Party at the Best Western Parkway Inn in Cornwall on Friday (April 1). Doors open at 6 p.m.
After serving food to Cornwallites for over four decades, the 68-year-old restaurant chef doesn’t rely on a secret ingredient or cheesy gimmicks.
“It’s the way you make it,” said Liolios, who took over the First Street East pizzeria in 1984.
In 2015, Louis’ was crowned Kinsmen Pizza Party champion for the third straight year, while second place went to 2-4-1 Pizza, and Bobby’s Place took third. But the crowd had their say, too. The People’s Choice top three: Louis’ Pizzeria, Bobby’s Place, and Best Famous Pizza.
“Good luck to everyone,” said Liolios. “I’m going to do what I’ve always done, because it’s up to the people to decide who makes Cornwall’s best pizza.”
Louis’ Pizzeria will compete against 2-4-1 Pizza, Bobby’s Place, Boston Pizza, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Pizza, Milano’s, and Best Famous Pizza.
Dessert pizza will be served complimentary of Dairy Queen Grill & Chill Cornwall.
“Cornwall has an appetite for generosity and all-dressed pizza,” said event chair Dan Carbonnell, an active member of the service club. “This is a fun, family-friendly event about enjoying the city’s legendary pizza and giving back to the community. But tickets are running out.”
The Cornwall Kinsmen Club’s annual Pizza Party has raised over $121,535 for local non-profits, youth programs, and other local charitable initiatives in the last decade.
This year, proceeds will be sliced up several ways to the Longue Sault Public School Spec Ops Program (a fitness and character development program), Koala Place Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in Cornwall, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall & District, and the family of Sean Cowan, an Eamer’s Corners Public School student battling leukemia.
