Fitness fundraiser steps up support for breast cancer research

CORNWALL, Ont. – A sea of Zumba dancers decked in pink took over the Cornwall Square Sunday, raising over $6,300 for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.

For the fifth consecutive year, dozens of people rallied at ZwithC’s ‘Paint the Mall Pink for a Cause’ fundraiser in partnership with the long-running Cleo ‘Mother’s Day Walk.’

“We raised double last year’s amount,” said Bowen, ZwithC instructor and event co-organizer. “Our original goal was $2,000. So I couldn’t be more proud of this amazing group. We battled ‘Bowen style’ in the middle of the mall for a one-of-a-kind dance off that hyped up the energy and allowed people to remember what they were fighting for.”

Funds raised through additional Zumba classes also added to the cause.

As the pounding bass of dance music blared downstairs, breast cancer survivors and their supporters walked upstairs.

Over the course of two weekends this May, more than 80 walks in support of Breast Cancer Society of Canada will take place across Canada.
