CORNWALL, Ont. – What better way to support the Children’s Treatment Centre than a city-wide scavenger hunt?
Add local businesses and entrepreneurs, according to event organizer, Sarah Massia.
The 23-year-old is hosting the second annual CTC Scavenger Hunt & Silent Auction on Saturday, June 18. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and registration is $20 per person, and $5 for children.
While teams of two-five tour the city, a silent auction will take place at the Cornwall Square from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“A couple of years ago, I decided to start helping the community more,” said Massia. “After participating in the centre’s Bike-a-Thon Plus a few times, I’ve developed a really good relationship with Angelo Towndale (CTC board member). So every time I fundraise it goes back to the centre. I also really like kids, and will be running the children’s activities at the 2016 Bike-a-Thon.”
Teams will be required to find items, answer trivia questions, take team photos, and respond to challenges during a three-hour timeframe.
Each team will need a car, a camera, and a can-do attitude.
“This event is a great way to give back, while having fun,” said Massia, winner of the CTC’s prestigious 2015 Spirit Award. “We, the youth, need to get involved to better our city.”
Since 2012, the local do-gooder has hosted numerous CTC fundraisers, including: BBQs, yard sales, bake sales, and car washes.
After recently completing a bachelor of arts degree with honours and a bachelor of education from Queen’s University, Massia is eager to devote herself to local youth as a teacher.

The Children’s Treatment Centre is a community-based agency committed to the prevention and treatment of child abuse in Cornwall, the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, and Akwesasne.
Since 1996, the centre has helped over 2,380 children.
Scavenger Hunt Rules:
1.All participants must be part of a team, which can consist of 2-5 people. One participant from each team must have a driver’s licence, which will be in the driver’s possession during the hunt, and have access to a car to participate in activities. Teams can create a team name and costume for extra points.
2.Teams will meet at The Cornwall Square for 10:00 am to register. They will depart for the scavenger hunt at 11:00 am and return by 2:00 pm. Teams who are not there at this time will be disqualified from winning prizes.
3.All team members must participate in the challenges. Teams must stick together during the hunt and remain in one vehicle (there will be no splitting up).
4.All participants must be respectful to other teams, teammates, and strangers within the community. There will be no forcing other’s to participate or help complete challenges without their permission.
5.There are no boundaries for the scavenger hunt, but be mindful of your time limits.
6.Always play fair: no cheating, lying, or sabotaging. Be mindful of laws and do not break them.
7.All challenges must be completed and pictures/videotaping scenes MUST be taken during the time frame of the scavenger hunt.
8.You do not have to purchase items – be creative and search around town for items.
9.All teams must have a cellphone on them in case of emergency.
10.Scoring: All challenges/objects are worth ten (10) points each. Bonus points are five (5) points each.
11.Judges determinations after the scavenger hunt are final.
