FACE Update

CDSBEO Trustees were presented with an update from Carole Allen, Project Manager, from Friends and Advocates of Catholic Education. The organization works to celebrate the value and importance of Catholic education in Ontario. Ontario’s Catholic school system includes 29 Catholic school boards with over 1,300 schools, and 562,000 students. Catholic schools in Ontario are guided by the Catholic Graduate Expectations, which support the distinctiveness of the Catholic school system.

“Thank you for all of the work that FACE does to promote and protect Catholic education in our province,” concluded Chair Wilson.

CDSBEO Summer Learning Program 2023

CDSBEO has had the opportunity to offer the Summer Learning Program across the Board for the past 13 years. The program, which delivered high-quality math and language instruction, as well as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and coding experiences, was hosted at 12 school sites for three weeks in July, with over 400 students from Kindergarten to grade 6 registered. Additionally, the Board offered online summer school secondary courses, with 1,121 students registered. The offerings provided learners with reach-ahead opportunities, mark upgrading, and general interest courses. A Skilled Trades Summer Camp for Young Women in grades 6, 7 and 8 was also offered where students learned about Agriculture, Horticulture, Welding, and Carpentry.

“We have certainly had a very busy and successful summer, and it’s wonderful to be able to offer so many summer learning opportunities to our students,” concluded Chair Wilson.
