Transition Cornwall+ Food Film Series Documentary

  • Place : Cornwall Public Library
  • Time : 13:00
  • Details : Transition Cornwall+ Food Action Group presents the third in its Food Film Series 2014. This month’s film, ‘Urban Roots’, will be shown at the Cornwall Public Library, Sunday, March 16 at 1 p.m. Admission is free and open to everyone (donations welcome). The documentary gives us a look at how real resilience, a sense of community and need has spurred ordinary people in Detroit to take control of their food source. The city is facing a post-industrial future with dramatic loss of economy and population. Whole neighbourhoods are in decay, but some people are seeing beyond this and recognising there is potential for a new way for growth. Together they are turning vacant lots into gardens that feed themselves and their neighbours, and even create employment. The stories are thought provoking to all of us living in urban environments. Everyone is welcome to view the film and take part in the conversation after. There will be information about Cornwall’s own community gardens. Grow!, the final film on April 13, will show how young people are turning to farming as a fair, ecologically sound and sustainable way of life. Each Sunday afternoon event includes a warming cup of soup, the screening, and a post-film discussion.
