A strong online presence has become essential in the business world, and the tourism industry is certainly not excluded. Linda Wilson, Executive Director of Cornwall and the Counties Tourism, is well aware of that and has hired Chris Hemond to be the Social Media and Web Coordinator to help develop that presence and capitalize on the growing social media sector.

“People are continually looking to the web to plan their trips, so it is important that we do not overlook this area. We need to be on top of the trends; we need to constantly update people with what we have to offer; and we need to interact with our following, cater to them, and listen to their feedback,” Wilson says. “That’s what Chris is going to bring to us.”

Chris Hemond is a graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Potsdam in the discipline of English Writing and Literature, with a minor in History. He also holds a diploma from Algonquin College in the discipline of Professional Writing.  His writing expertise and knowledge of social media practices will work cohesively to encourage visitors to the area.

“I’m really excited to be back in town and to work with local business owners and the community to promote Cornwall and the Counties as a great place to visit, for business and pleasure,” Chris says.

Born and raised in the area, Chris left to pursue a career teaching high school when he discovered he was unable to suppress his passion for language and writing. Upon graduating from SUNY Potsdam, Chris went on to further develop his writing skills at Algonquin College. The two-year Professional Writing diploma program included a 7-week internship at the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ), in which he provided written content for both the online and print editions.

Chris is available to discuss potential mentions and posts on Cornwall and the Counties’ social media platforms and how they can help drive visitors and customers to attractions, festivals or businesses. He can be reached via email at chris@cornwalltourism.com or by phone at (613) 938-4748.
