Motorcycle engines will be roaring for the Cornwall Seaway Lions Club's annual poker run.
The motorcycle rally, it's hoped, will attract some 200 riders Sept. 8 to the Royal Canadian Air Force Association office in Cornwall - doubling last year's attendance, said Terry Muir, chair of the ride.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Children's Wish Foundation and the Cornwall Children's Christmas Fund. Last year the event raised $4,000.
"I'm hoping for more," said Muir. "Last year was our first year.
"The plan is to keep this going."
The poker run will begin at the RCAFA Wing 424 on Water Street in Cornwall, at about 10 a.m. Muir says the course will be about 300 km and will include stops.
The route is a closely-guarded secret. Muir said maps are presnted at checkpoints, directing riders to their next destination.
Muir said it will take about seven hours to complete the course.
Although Muir says the poker run is not a race, riders must complete the course before 6 p.m. in order to qualify for prizes. There will also be prizes for the most funds raised.
A minimum $25 donation per person is required, which will include breakfast at the wing from 8 to 10 a.m. Riders are encouraged to find sponsors to raise more money and pledge sheets are available through Muir at 613-362-3101. You can also email at cornwallseawaylions@live.com.
