Dear Paul, I am grateful for your interest in my son, Joel. My reason for contacting you is to recommend a book by Jaye Adams entitled "Competent To Council". For several years, I have been aware of the infiltration of the Church by Freudian psychology ( also Rogers, Skinner, etc) and because of this, many christians are being referred to pagan councellors for help with their various "issues". Because God is just another "crutch" to them, they tolerate christians belief in Him in the same way they would a person going to the golf course for some "cool down" time. There is NO DOUBT in my mind that the Scriptures are ALL that are needed for the complete healing and/or deliverance of any human being on the planet. Sin is the root of all man's woes. I realize that there are medical problems that can hinder a person's ability to respond to the truth of God's Word, but for the rest of us, the flesh ( accompanied by the world system and the the devil's "whisperings") , ie, our sinful nature, is the culprit. Pastor Adams went through a lot of unsuccessful years of counselling because of the humanistic methods that were included in his seminar courses. By the grace of God, he had his eyes opened to the truth, and since then, he has had a great increase in positive results in the ministry God has called him to. I have his book in my library, and a second copy next to it. If you would like to read it, I believe it will be beneficial in honing your councelling skills. I am not a seminary graduate, but I the Word was not written for seminary graduates. I believe that it was Wycliffe that said there would be a day when a boy in the field would be more knowledgable of the Scriptures than the pope. You know as we'll as I that any born again person that deeply plunges into God's Word will be increasingly transformed into the image of God's Son, as long as they allow it to change them. The KEY to growth is, and always has been, repentance. And so, Pastor Paul, if you feel led to read the book, I'll gladly lend it to you. If you prefer, the book can be downloaded into an e-Reader device for about 10$. But I have it for free. Thanks again for your concern in regards to our son. God bless you and yours. Please e-mail at daviessimard@start.ca if you are interested. By the way,I had thought of asking Joel if he would be willing to sit down with you, my wife and I, and do an honest evaluation of who we are, and what our individual responsibilities are in the sight of God, but for the time being, I do not think he wants to "look deeper". I yearn to see him set free. I love him more than he realizes. He is an agony of prayer before God in my heart. He has the potential to be a mighty man of God. Thanks again for caring. Yours truly, Gary Davies.
