CORNWALL, Ontario - A Cornwall children's charity will be granting wishes for local youth fighting a life-threatening disease in 2014.

Dr. Rachel Navaneelan and her charity Rachel's Kids also provide school supplies to children in need in Sri Lanka.

Rachel's Kids, a non-profit charity helping underprivileged youth across the world, announced their newest program: Small Moments of Joy.

"It's focused on local children battling life-threatening or chronic illness," said Gillian Oxley-Harper, Rachel's Kids vice chair. "Small Moments of Joy will grant 'wishes' for these children – with the goal of allowing them to forget their illness for a moment or two and focus on a moment of joy."

The program's goal is to aid in the child's recovery process by providing a positive and happy experience for the children and their families. The initiative is supported by the Rachel's Kids board of directors and will launch next year.
