CORNWALL, Ontario -The St. Lawrence Seniors Club disbursed $15,000 in charitable funds to community groups at a gathering on Wednesday.
The funds were raised throughout the 2013 bingo series.
“We really appreciate this donation,” said Rachelle Lamond, member of the board of directors for the Children’s Treatment Centre - one of the 11 recipients - who explained that their agency is self-sufficient and relies heavily on these funds, as they do not get grants from the government. “It’s to help the children.”
For 25 years the St. Lawrence Seniors have been hosting fundraising Bingo. The public is welcome to attend on Mondays and Thursdays, at 12:15 pm.
“I am very proud of this club and its members," said André St-Pierre. “To be able to help all of these organizations and proud of the volunteers that make this club successful.”
Recipients included The Heart and Stroke Foundation ($1,500); Children’s Treatment Centre ($1,500); Canadian Cancer Society ($1,000); Alzheier Society ($1000); Multiple Sclerosis ($1000); Cornwall Community Hospital ($1,000); St Vincent de Paul ($1,000); Agapè Centre ($1,000) Hospice Cornwall ($1,500) Canadian Diabetes Association ($1,000); and Big Brothers and Big Sisters Cornwall SD&G ($1,000).
