The PAWfect Car Wash in support of the OSPCA's SDG branch is taking place this Saturday.
The PAWfect Car Wash is being held until 3 p.m. in The Brick's parking lot at 1525 Pitt Street.
Each $10 car wash comes with a free air freshener, sponsored by The Red Carpet Treatment and Accesoware.
Drivers can also enjoy some hot dogs while their vehicle is being shined up. A BBQ by donation is on site.
All the proceeds will support the SDG branch of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA).
Their goal is to raise $1,000 to help with emergency vet cases, and supply the shelter with some added funds to purchase wish list items. Overall, the fundraiser will help with the current daily operations.
"We invite everyone to take a few minutes this weekend and pop in at The Brick to get their car washed by our enthusiastic volunteers and the Dr. Wash staff," Christina Russell, OSPCA fundraising committee member.
In July of 2011, the local OSPCA hosted its first car wash in Alexandria, which raised $500.
This time they wanted to bring it back, but bigger. The OSPCA have partnered with the staff at Dr. Wash, who will be supplying the cleaning supplies and professional car washing help.
Russell noted that Marc Dion, from Dr. Wash, jumped on the opportunity when asked.
"With the help of Dr. Wash and our two sponsors, we are hoping to make this a very successful fundraiser," she said.
The shelter operates on fundraising initiatives, fees, and donations alone - they receive no government funding whatsoever.
However, this event isn't just about raising funds - it's about raising awareness as well.
Smaller fundraisers, such as the car wash, give the local OSPCA an opportunity to engage with new individuals and further educate the community on the importance of animal welfare and the role the shelter plays within the community.
"We value the support of our SDG community and strive to make each of our fundraising events successful and unique in order to engage everyone we can," said Russell.
