CORNWALL, Ontario - The annual City of Cornwall Diving Competition had local youth taking the plunge.

William Hollingsworth representing Terry Fox pool readies for a cannonball dive at Reg Campbell pool.

Reg Campbell pool in the city's east end was abuzz Friday, July 11 with swimmers from Cornwall's five municipal pools competing for bragging rights and prizes.

Paticipants from Terry Fox, Mattice, St. Francis, and St. Joe's as well as Reg Campbell squared off in several divisions, ranging from ages eight to 16.

"It helps promote physical activity within the community, especially with young athletes," said Alyssa McLean, the city's aquatic events leader.

Megan Hollingsworth, Reg Campbell pool coach, was pleased with her team's performance.

"The competition gives swimmers an opportunity to show off their skills and put all their hard work and training to the test," said Hollingsworth.

Event results will be released over the next few days.
