Alexandria, ON – A gourmet Indian feast prepared by specially trained students from Glengarry District High School promises to be the highlight of the annual Glengarry fundraising dinner for Child Haven International, to be held on Friday, October 16, 2009, this time at a new location, the Maxville Sports Complex in Maxville.

Child Haven is the vision of Bonnie and Fred Cappuccino of Maxville. It has been operating for 24 years, with a network of nine orphanages serving about 1,100 children, in India, Nepal, Tibet and Bangladesh. More recently, Child Haven has expanded to look after 150 women and 30 seniors who are destitute and without families. It also raises funds, recruits and trains volunteers from many countries, and works with local communities. “This will be the 23rd fundraising dinner to be held here in Glengarry,” says Dinner Committee organizer Alyson Graham. “Child Haven is under pressure due to the economic downturn, so the funds are more needed than ever. But the evening is also a celebration, because Child Haven is an international success story, with its roots right here in Glengarry.”

The Indian dinner will be catered by Julia Graham and the Glengarry District High School Hospitality and Tourism students. “The students are really excited about the dinner,” says Julia Graham. “They’ve already listened to an inspiring talk by Julie Slater, who volunteered at Child Haven in Asia.” In addition, Julia imported a chef who taught the students to make naan, an Indian bread, and samosas, which are Indian appetizers.

Guests at the dinner will be treated to sari-draped tables and a Silent Auction which features exquisite, one-of-a-kind items brought back from Asia by Bonnie Cappuccino. The unique jewellery, intricately fashioned artifacts and beautiful authentic clothing items make wonderfully memorable gifts or additions to your own decor. Tickets for the evening are now on sale and cost $30 per person or $210 for a table of eight. To reserve tickets, please contact Susan Joiner at (613)525-5177 or joinergilsdorf@hotmail.com
