March is Nutrition Month®. The 2010-2011 National Nutrition Month Campaign focuses on teaching Canadian families about how food is grown, harvested, produced and processed all the way to the prepared food on our tables.
The Eastern Ontario Health Unit understands that proper nutrition is the basis of a healthy lifestyle. That’s why we offer a variety of programs which promote healthy eating habits, such as Nutri-Basket tours, cooking courses, collective kitchens and many more.
If you’ve ever felt lost in the grocery store, been confused by food labels or second guessed the food choices you’re making for your family, then you should sign up for a free Nutri-Basket tour!
How does a Nutri-Basket tour work? A registered dietitian will:
• Guide you through a local grocery, which takes approximately 45 minutes
• Reveal supermarket traps
• Give you tips on how to eat healthy on a budget
• Discuss healthy options within each food category
• Show you what to look for when reading food labels
• Show you how to identify items high in fat, cholesterol, sodium and sugar
• Answer all of your questions
This is your chance to have all your nutrition questions answered by a registered dietitian… for free! So, come on your own or gather your co-workers, your friends and your family. Call 613-933-1375 or 1 800 267-7120 and ask for the Health Line. You can also visit www.eohu.ca.
