The Rotary Club of Cornwall has contributed, in a significant way with a $50,000 commitment to the 3+1 Project 2010.
“Our motto is Service Above Self,” said Rotary President Ariane Carriere. “We see this as a great community project and it’s our way to give back to the community.”
Project 2010 joins a long list of local initiatives and organizations the Rotary Club of Cornwall has made financial contributions to.
The list includes the Cornwall Community Hospital, Boys and Girls Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall and District totalling more than $130,000 committed over the next several years.
Details of their contributions can be found on their website, cornwallrotary.com.
“With the ground work on the project already underway (on the Seventh Street site), we’re getting more and more interest from all sectors of the community including local Service Clubs,” said Project 2010 Chairman Scott Lecky.
Cornwall Truck Centre has also stepped up to the plate with $20,000 for a dressing room.
Cornwall Truck Centre joins several other local businesses and contributors on the ever growing list of sponsors for the dressing rooms.
That brings the total amount raised to more than $800,000 en route to a $2-million target.
The new Cornwall sportsplex will be developed on land between Seventh Street West and Second Street West.
The facility will boast three NHL-sized ice pads, a field house and tennis court while the list of amenities includes a committee room, lounge, concessions and more.
Aside from being a positive economic impact on Cornwall and area, Project 2010 will also encourage a healthy lifestyle for local residents.
