They say that a city without arts and culture is a city without heart and soul.

Cornwall is a city with great soul—and rock, and blues, and jazz, and rap and much more!

Spirit of a City is a new CD due to be released in November 2009. The CD was the brainchild of local singer-songwriter Sara Murphy. “This project will not only highlight the diverse talent we have here in the Cornwall area, but it will also raise much-needed funds to help buy hospital equipment,” said Sara Murphy, who contributed her own song “Fool’s Gold” from her upcoming CD.

Several genres of music are represented on the CD, which features songs by Graham Greer, Nancy Beaudette, Medius, The Shiners, The Brigadoons, Trench Town Oddities, Sara Murphy, Straw Dogs, Freudhammer, Therese Motard, MC Entertainment, Paul-Andre Durocher, Stephanie Coleman, Superstone, Elite World Artist and The General Electryk.

All proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation.

A CD release event will be held on Nov. 7 at 8 p.m., at Indie Guitars/DreamBuilderStudios at 2107 Second St. W. The night will feature live performances by Stephanie Coleman, Graham Greer, The General Electryk and Trench Town Oddities. The event will feature a cash bar and refreshments, courtesy of Moustache Joe’s.

Tickets for the CD release event are $20 in advance or $25 at the door, and include a copy of the CD. Tickets are available at Scotiabank Cornwall, 960 Brookdale Ave., Cornwall.

CDs will be available for purchase beginning Nov. 8 at a variety of retailers in and around Cornwall.
