Members of the SDG Social Justice Coalition participated in the Make Poverty History flag-raising ceremony at the Justice Building, Cornwall on Friday, Oct. 16, joining millions around the world in “Standing Up and Taking Action” in an effort to break the Guinness World Record for the most people joining forces to Make Poverty History.“Stand Up and Take Action” is a worldwide event coordinated by the Millennium Development Goals Campaign. Now in its fourth year, this year’s event aims to break last year’s Guinness World Record of 116 million people for the largest single coordinated mobilization of people in history. “Stand Up and Take Action” is coordinated in Canada by Make Poverty History. Make Poverty History is part of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP), the world’s largest anti-poverty coalition, made up of national campaigns in over 100 countries. In Canada, over a quarter of a million people signed on to the campaign.
