Activity professionals across Ontario marked "Activity Professional Awareness Week" which was held from March 7 to 13. "This helps to promote how important activities are for the older population," says Barry Lewis, activity assistant at Sandfield Place Nursing Home and St. Lawrence College student who is on field placement from the social services program. Because everyone is different, explains Lewis, an individual assessment is developed for each person to promote their cognitive, spiritual and social well-being. Among the regular activities in the nursing home is pet therapy, "laundry folks," "walk talk and roll," as well as a spa program.
