Seven individuals who work at the Service Canada office in Cornwall have been told they are out of work.

An email from Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) representative Mario Leclerc to Seaway News confirmed the cuts.

It's part of another round of cost cutting being undertaken by the federal government to shed billions in salary expenditures.

Leclerc sarcastically noted in his email: "I surmise this is the Conservatives' plan for jobs, growth and long-term prosperity."

On a more serious note, Leclerc further noted thousands have been made jobless by these cuts.

"Since the budget was delivered on March 29, there have been 2,609 workers affected in Ontario alone, with 16,873 nationally," he said. "And these numbers only reflect PSAC members. There are thousands of workers that have been affected in the federal government, including workers from other unions and contract and term employees."

And Leclerc suggested Canadians are going to start to see the results soon.

"This government is misleading Canadians when it says that these cuts won't hurt frontline services," he said. "These cuts are hurting services Canadians rely on."

It is rumoured another employee purge will take place this autumn.

You're kidding right? Every time I have gone to "Service" Canada there has been NO service. We can see 3-4 people in the back holding timmies cups and talking while there is a line of people waiting and only one maybe two people actually working so whatever. Maybe now those that have jobs will actually wrk to keep them.
