The local Catholic diocese will officially wlecome its new bishop Sunday morning.
Rev. Marcel Damphousse will be ordained as the ninth bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall.
Damphousse will be responsible for the more than 55,000 Catholics who live in Stormont and Glengarry, the two counties that comprise the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall.
Diocesan bishops are responsible for teaching doctrine and to govern local regions within the Catholic church known as dioceses.
Present at the ordination will be the Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, Pedro López Quintana, as well as 25 bishops, priests and deacons of the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall.
The ordination takes place at St. Finnan's Cathedral in Alexandria.
