A message about a rash of vehicle break-ins came from an unlikely source today - the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce.

While crime bulletins are usually the domain of the police, the chamber today issued a warning to residents about vehicle break-ins that have spiked in recent weeks.

"The chamber has been advised of a rash of automobile break-ins in various public and private parking lots around the city," said the release. "The chamber strongly urges member businesses to make sure that no valuable items are left in view - GPS, cell phones, laptops and other similar items — and that your vehicle is securely locked."

Police have been grappling with a surge in the number of vehicle break-ins in the city core recently.

Anyone witnessing a crime is advised to call the Cornwall police at 613-933-5000.
