A local business has been ripped off for $12,000 by an employee.

The Cornwall Community Police Service arrested Jamie Lavigne, 26, of Cornwall on Sept. 27 and charged him with fraud over $5,000.

Police allege that between January and September of this year, a man fraudulently stole money from his employer by making false returns on an Interac machine.

Police began an investigation earlier this month. Lavigne will appear in court Nov. 13.
