A routine drive for Canadian Cancer Society volunteer Gordon Fletcher, and four Cornwall patients turned into a bit of an adventure last week.

While returning from Ottawa with the patients who had just received cancer treatment, one of the new tires on Fletcher's vehicle disintegrated.

Stuck on the side of the road, he contacted National Car Rental in Cornwall about renting a vehicle.

The agency sent a driver up with a van and collected the patients and delivered them to their Cornwall homes at no charge.

The cancer society has heaped praise upon the car rental firm for its thoughtful display.

"It was our pleasure to help," said Randy Houle, of National Car Rental.
