A new warden is at the helm of the United Counties council.

Bill McGimpsey, deputy mayor of North Stormont Township, was officially sworn in as United Counties warden Friday morning.

McGimpsey has served as a United Counties councillor since 2003.

North Stormont Mayor Dennis Fife, a two-time warden himself, is the only member of the upper tier municipality to serve on the existing counties council longer than McGimpsey.

McGimpsey was endorsed as the 2013 warden by counties council earlier this year. Stormont County was next in line for one of its four representatives to be the next warden.

He replaces Ian MacLeod, mayor of South Glengarry Township.
