Kevin Hargreaves has been named President of the Cornwall & Area Chamber of Commerce. Hargreaves owns and operates the Kelsey's Restaurant in Cornwall, along with his wife Wendy.

The announcement was made by the chamber’s outgoing president, Rick Shaver, at its year end transitional meeting.

“I’m pleased with the confidence the Board has given me and I’m looking forward to the chamber’s opportunities and challenges for the upcoming year,” said Hargreaves.

Joining Hargreaves on the Executive Committee are Nada Kovinich, first vice president; Jodi Hawkshaw, second vice president; Paul Desnoyers, treasurer, and the Chamber’s Executive Manager, Lezlie Strasser. Shaver remains as past president and chair of the board.

Two weeks ago the chamber announced its 2013 Board of Directors, following the elections. Serving on the Board, in addition to the members of the Executive Commitee as noted above are Mark Begg, Denis Carr, Shawn Filion, Bill Kingston, Rory MacLennan, Eric McDonell, Jacques Perreault and Mai Liis Renaud.

The president and board were sworn in by Mayor Bob Kilger.

Hargreaves was previously the chamber’s treasurer. He looks forward to the upcoming year with enthusiasm.

“As a board, we will be looking at a number of issues that have the potential to impact the business community and community at large,” he reports. “The location of the toll booth and Customs have yet to be finalized, there are continuing pressures on the region’s independent school bus operators, and of utmost importance will be the municipal budget.”

The new Board and Executive commence their duties Tuesday.
