Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell is calling for an immediate study to determine the region's long-term requirements before deciding on what to do with the former Cornwall General Hospital site.

"It's a sensitive issue and there are several concerns," said McDonell. "Our office has received many requests from our residents who are trying to find a spot for their loved ones.  This is not just a local problem, as the Auditor-General identified the shortage of long-term beds as a major failure of this Liberal government in his December 2012 report."

McDonell supports the creation of a task force for an immediate review of the area's needs and the role of the Second Street site in fulfilling those needs.

"That site may not be the ultimate solution, but the only reasonable short-term answer until an overall plan for the area can be developed," continued McDonell. "We need the Liberal government to step up and look after the needs of Cornwall and the United Counties."
