A gruesome discovery in Cornwall Wednesday has sparked a criminal investigation.
Members of the Cornwall Fire Department found skeletal remains while searching a home at the corner of Alice and First streets. Fire officials were at the home along with bylaw officers who were trying to determine if the home needed to be condemned.
Upon discovering the remains police were called, as well as the provincial coroner.
The bones have been determined to be human, Cornwall police said.
A forensic examination has begun and members of the force's criminal investigations division have taken up the case.
The bones were discovered at about 2:30 p.m.
