The Upper Canada District School Board will keep its schools open Friday, even though most, if not all, teachers will be walking a picket line.

The board issued a release from its head office in Brockville, that suggests it will be "business as usual" at schools during the planned "political protest" by educators.

"This does not affect educational assistants, early childhood educators, or other school support staff," said the board in the release, though the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario said Wednesday early childhood educators, professional support personnel and education support personnel would be protesting.

The board is urging parents to contact their school to let administrators know if their child will be in school on Friday.

It's likely non-teaching staff will once again be supervising those students who do go to school.

“I, like many other parents, will keep my sons at home," said board chair Greg Pietersma. "However, I’m really pleased that we are able to provide an opportunity to those parents who do not have a child-care alternative on Friday."

Catholic school board facilities will be open Friday, said officials in a news release, adding extra-curricular activities are also planned without any disruptions.
