The SD&G County Library will be celebrating Family Literacy Day across Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry next week.
Celebrated annually on Jan. 27, Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada.
“The main focus of Family Literacy Day is to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family”, explained Erika Heesen, Communications and Marketing Librarian.
In honour of Family Literacy Day’s 15th year, this year’s theme is “15 minutes of fun."
“Taking time every day to read or to learn with children is vital to a child’s development. Fifteen minutes a day can make a big difference in improving a child’s literacy skills”, added Heesen. “The Library is an essential community place for parents and their children to learn together and we have a number of programs this week that focus on family literacy”.
Programs include stories, word games, and music in Ingleside, Long Sault, St. Andrews, Iroquois, Morrisburg, and more! The Library invites all families in SD&G to come to the Library and enjoy “15 minutes of fun”.
